After a lengthy drive from Williamsburg to the Outer Banks of NC we finally arrived in beautiful Corolla, home of the famed wild horses. This place is just as pretty as everyone has described it and the lack of “touristy” feel is most appealing. Upon settling in to our digs for the week, we ventured out on an evening stroll into an estuary that sits directly behind our rental house. At the end of the boardwalk, we approached a lookout, where lo and behold we strained our eyes to see three wild horses lying in the meadow. The lady who passed us on the way into the estuary claimed it was the first time she had ever seen them in this area. Nonetheless, it was cool to be able to view them on our first night here–practically in our back yard! Once the family of four left of our presence and we remained the only threesome out there for the next half-hour, we hooted and hollered (in Spanish I might add) in a determined effort to get those horses to come over and greet us in a closer meeting. “Venga aqui cabalo,” Zachary would yell out to them. We laughed and laughed until our stomachs hurt….. Needless to say, those darn horses might have been listening, but surely didn’t mind!
Let the wild horses roam free!
